![]() The exotic-sounding ensemble is a group of excellent period-instrument string players, most of them Dutch. In these performances they show the advantages of their instruments, not only in the transparency of the sound, but in the way they play more strongly on the softer-voiced instruments without overstressing the music. Both of these masterpieces are played extremely well; the close-up recording reveals every detail of the music, but virtually no flaws in the playing. Highly recommended, although those who wonder if they will like this music might want to try the much-less-expensive, very well played versions from the Eder Quartet (modern instruments) on Naxos. —Leslie Gerber ![]() 5CD L'Archibudelli ![]() 1.
